Aaaaalright. I'm not a cookbook person in general, but your enthusiasm has inspired me, and I definitely just ordered a copy. This has landed your Substack in my "dangerous" category bc I foresee doing this every month. Love, love, love.
Ahhhh to be in your dangerous category is literally the highest praise!! this means I’m a bad influence but like in a really good way, so it all evens out, right?! 😏 I really hope you love it and also this is how I feel anytime you share what you’ve been reading 🤩😅
You absolutely need the chicken, I absolutely need to hit you up for sourdough tips (it's such an encouragement to know that the way of learning is the way of doing), and we absolutely need to make Parlor Doughnuts a thing in every city. Soooooo good!
Awww thanks, Jenna!! I love when I get the chance to really deep dive into a cookbook. And then of course there are a bunch of recipes I still wish I could make. Someday! I know you get the angst!
I love this! I read her “where cooking begins” awhile back and still remember writing notes from it during picnics. This one looks lovely. And Shauna Niequist was a formative food/fellowship/feelings writer for me too. So exciting to hear she has a cookbook coming out!
Not sure where in Indiana you are, but there's also a Parlor Doughnuts in Bloomington! Was the happiest discovery for me 😍
Ooooo this is lovely to know! We actually live in MI, but I would make the trip haha 😍🤩

1. The Low-and-Slow Spiced Chicken Legs with Garlic Crunch-Crumbs—I NEED THIS RIGHT NOW!
2. Totally agree that sourdough is a (beautiful, hard) process of trial and error. The more I bake, the more comfortable I feel for sure.
3. THOSE DONUTS. That is all.

Have you tried any recipes from The Perfect Loaf? I cannot get enough of his pain de mie: https://www.theperfectloaf.com/pain-de-mie/ for truly flavorful sandwich bread. And it makes for wonderful toast in the morning! And I adore this loaf, too: https://www.theperfectloaf.com/sunflower-and-sesame-sourdough-bread/
Oooo I have not but I live for morning toast, so I will have to try both of these!! 🤩😍
Just placed a hold at my library! Eeeek!
yesssssss girl!! Let me know what you think!
Thanks for the shoutout! I am continually impressed by how many recipes you make from these books. It’s inspiring!

Not that I need another cookbook, but this one looks too good and seems worth it for the chicken and fried bread alone!
I think I could happily eat those two things for a very long time. Let me know if you check it out and what you make!! 😍
I love seeing these monthly posts!❤️
And I will vouch that the mocha hazelnut biscotti was so delicious!
And the salad with the buttermilk salad dressing is one that I will want to make as it tasted very good!
Thanks for being the best taste-tester, and mom! 💛
That chicken looks amazing!
It shocked me in the best way possible. I hope you get the chance to try it!!

We're totally kindred spirits, Susannah! I will absolutely have to check out "where cooking begins!"
